Catalan designer Martí Guixé designed this Flama Lamp for the upcoming holiday season for Italian company Danese. The lamp is made with a candleholder base with a magnet at the bottom that supports the LED body that is adjustable and even reversible. With this flexibility, there are many ways to make the light work for you.
Plug the lamp using the power supply to get direct lighting or remove it (and adjust the LED body) to get access to indirect light. Separate the LED body and use the candleholder to hold a candle (really!).
The lamps are available in four colors: red, blue, black and yellow. From now til 9 January 2012, the price is 135,00€ (approximately US$182, £116) Purchase them on the Danese website.
“The history of light in your hands.
FLAMA is a lamp that integrates fire as a proto light and at
the same time the cutting edge led technology, a kind of
meta lighting device.
A lamp you can touch.
The object is made of several pieces that can be easily put
together in different ways in order to build a lamp typology
according to your light requirements. You do not adapt to
the light, the light adapts to you.
The idea is that depending on the position, order and
sequence of the par ts, you can build an entirely different
lighting; this fact promotes the perception of FLAMA as the
first lighting object with a quantic behavior.”
