As a Tumi customer myself, I’ve always regarded the company as a premium maker of quality travel products. I own the Alpha International Carry-on which I take wherever I go. I also know I would never have to worry about my bag if it gets damaged, because Tumi’s customer service will be right there to help me (that’s a different story for later).
When I heard about the Dror for Tumi collection and saw some initial press photos, my first thought was that the design was not from the Tumi that I knew – which could be interesting. This was actually Tumi’s first collaboration with an external designer – Dror Benshetrit – who has worked with companies such as Alessi, Boffi, Cappellini, Swarovski and more.
There are 11 pieces in this new collection of travel gear, ranging from carry-ons to backpacks to travel kits – with 8 of them that can transform in some way. One of the best examples is the international carry-on as pictured below. The expansion is done via a zipper-less hardside. Zipper-less? That’s right. You can actually expand the depth from 9 to 14 inches via a two-stage expansion mechanism.
The backpack in the collection can be adjusted between a brief or tote via the adjustable straps. It’s quite cool. Check out the video below and see for yourself.

I love the style of the bag! Very architectural in its form.
