Milan has always been an eye-opener for me, even though this would be my sixth year of attendance. These days I don’t find myself in Tortona as often, as it has matured into a commercial presentation of design. However, I ran across some designs from Serbia that were eye catching and want to share them with you. These designs were selected as part of a competition that is themed around “memory” – and in this case memory boxes to showcase identity – as Serbia is a candidate to join the European Union.
Play Storage Units designed by Ana Babic, produced by Jasen
This is a series of five plywood storage units fitted on a swiveling support like a miniature ferris wheel. Each storage unit is shaped like a toolbox and has a colored interior to augment the playfulness of the piece.
Matrioshka designed by Sasa Mitrovic, produced by SCS Plus
We’ve seen similar concepts before, but probably not executed like this one. This is a system of wooden storage units nested inside one another, and when pulled out you will get seven (I lost count) different storage units that can be used as dressers, drawer units and more. The legs on the units maybe folded under the base of the applicable unit.
