Ever wonder how some of your favorite designs are made?
Fritz Hansen and Design Within Reach is now on a US national tour celebrating architect and designer Arne Jacobsen and showcasing two of his iconic chairs: Egg™ and Series 7™.
So what are these chairs about?
The Series 7 Chair is probably one of the most well-known chairs ever, with more than 7 million sold. This year Fritz Hansen marked the 60th anniversary of this chair with two special edition chairs only available in 2015: a masculine edition with a dark blue lacquer shell and powder-coated burnished legs, as well as a feminine edition dressed in pale pink lacquer with 24-ct gold-plated legs.
During the Milan Furniture Fair, Fritz Hansen also announced a series of new colors for the Series 7 as part of a collaboration with Danish artist Tal R.
Then there is the Egg Chair. What can we say? It was originally made for the launch of the first boutique hotel in the world — the Royal Hotel Copenhagen in Copenhagen — in the late 50s.
On this national tour, there will be a sneak peek of the new DWR exclusive-Egg Chair. Available in two unique finishes, using Basel fabrics designed by Herzog & de Meuron from Kvadrat and finished with Sorensen leather piping and matching lacquered bases.
What’s more, you will get a chance to see Fritz Hansen’s master upholsterer Hans Mannerhagen sew and finish the special-edition Egg Chair over the course of the night. Mannerhagen has worked for Fritz Hansen in Denmark since 1998. You will certainly appreciate the artisan work – and the authenticity behind the design – after this event. There will also be a chance to win some Series 7 chairs!
