2011: A Design Year in Review (Almost), Part One

Since our site launched in March of this year, we covered different aspects of design – from interiors to furniture to architecture and style. Here is a quick review of our favorites of the year. Enjoy!

Posts from the Salone del Mobile

You can’t have a website that talks about design without talking about the Salone del Mobile in Milan, also known as the Milan Furniture Fair. We caught up with Tokujin Yoshioka in Milan to talk about his Moon Chair for Moroso.

We also checked out some new pieces from Casamania, including the Maritime Chair by Benjamin Hubert that was inspired by traditional shipbuilding techniques, as well as the Rememberme Chair by Tobias Juretzek.

No Salone del Mobile is complete, however, if we don’t visit the Salone Satellite, where up-and-coming designers really get to shine in the industry. One of the pieces I truly loved is the Xuan Bamboo Lamp from Innovo Design. Haven’t heard much from them since though, but it’s truly a piece of art.

Plumen 001 Low Energy Lightbulb

A winner of the Brit Insurance Design of the Year, this Plumen 001 Low Energy Lightbulb is “beautiful and smart”.

Part two coming tomorrow!
